The Challenge
Spread over two phases, including the complete refit of all areas of the building to provide new teaching spaces dedicated to group working with a mix of both formal and informal learning.
The brief was to provide direct links between teaching and research with several research groups based at the facility. A key element of the scheme was the creation of a new top-lit atrium space.
The Solution
Our energy modelling team worked closely with the MEP engineers taking advantage of the new top-lit atrium space, including natural ventilation and high-efficiency glazing, to maintain a comfortable climate in the atrium whilst minimising energy consumption.
MEP systems were designed to be adaptable, allowing for the reconfiguration of spaces to accommodate formal lectures and collaborative work sessions.
Zoning MEP systems for different areas of the building allowed for precise control of heating, cooling, and lighting, optimising comfort, and energy efficiency.
